A Healthy Marriage will return!

Last night I sent the email I’d been anxious to send:

“Hey Dan,

I have a burning desire to get AHM off the ground again. Are you still interested in working on this project together?”

-Dave

To which he responded:

“I’ve been waiting almost 2 years to get this email. Let’s get to work.”

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why did I wait two years? It’s complicated. First, I took time after February 2023 to step away from the show and try to find a new job (gotta pay the bills). When I found the job- department coordinator at a vo-tech school for theater- I knew it was going to be a while before I could balance it and my own creative endeavors. I didn’t know how long that would take, and I didn’t anticipate a lot of the speedbumps along the way of starting this job. I was denied a certification by the state, was hired anyway, and had to spend the first 8 months of my new job appealing the denial of certification, learning the ropes, teaching, and attending school for the certification that the state was in the process of denying me. Sound like some bullshit? I could have (should have?) just walked away from it all, but I didn’t. The job is a good job. The pay is good pay. The work is creatively fulfilling. But before I knew it, I was settling into a rhythm not in September of 2023, not in December, but all the way into JUNE OF 2024. Then it was summer and I had to find gig work to make ends meet. It’s amazing how quickly 20 months can go by when you’re struggling to pay rent, working a job that (by no fault of the school, and total fault of the state) did not make me feel immediately welcome, and sitting on a (dare I say) amazing musical that needs the one form of nurturing you don’t have: TIME.

Well, screw that. I am going to make the time. Stay tuned, everyone. A Healthy Marriage: The Hall-Mills Murders will bow again. And this time, it’s…

probably better? Shorter? Funnier? I don’t know just come see it when it goes up and we can talk after.
